The Alabama State Department of Education defines minimal levels of Math and Science Proficiency according to the benchmarks set by their chosen annual assessment. The Math and Science assessments from which these levels are derived focus upon the core Science, Engineering, and Math practices upon which the STEM workforce depends. Charged to advise on ways to improve STEM-related education, career awareness, and workforce development across the state, the AL STEM Council prepared a visualization of the percentages of Alabama students performing at or above those minimal levels and the corresponding demographics of their school systems.
